This week, for the first time, every note in Afternoon Concert was written by a woman. In recordings from all of the 蘑菇短视频 orchestras and choirs, we celebrate female creativity with music spanning 300 years and traversing the globe.

Large-scale works by Germaine Tailleferre and Gloria Coates, plus Lili Boulanger, Errolyn Wallen, Elisabetta Brusa & Sally Beamish, in recent recordings by the 蘑菇短视频 orchestras.
Wallen wrote PACE as a choral work, explaining that it is 'best understood as a single human breath; as a single line; as a world鈥檚 long, long journey to light'. This recording by members of the 蘑菇短视频 Scottish Symphony Orchestra is the first performance of the composer's arrangement for brass ensemble. In 1923 Tailleferre, the only female member of the group of French composers known as Les Six, completed Le Marchand d'oiseaux for the Ballet Su茅dois, with a scenario, costumes and set designs by the woman artist and poetess H茅l猫ne Perdriat. Born in Wisconsin, Gloria Coates has been described as a having a personal soundworld unlike any other in contemporary music. Her work includes 16 symphonies, varied chamber music, and solo, vocal and electronic compositions.
