What was the first ever London Marathon like?

Available for over a year

On Sunday 21st April nearly 60,000 people will be pounding the streets of London for the annual London Marathon. But it’s safe to say things looked a little different back on the 29th of March 1981, when the very first London Marathon took place. Just 6000 people took part then. We’ve had a dig into the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Archive to bring you the radio report from that day, when the join winners cross the line hand in hand. Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio London's Ross Ryan has more.
