Kenya's President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga have agreed to hold talks aimed at ending two weeks of protests over the cost of living and electoral reforms. Opposition leader Raila Odinga said that his Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition had suspended protests in response to what he referred to as "a climbdown" by the president. Javas Bigambo, a lawyer and political strategist based in Nairobi, says claiming one side to be right and the other side to be wrong only aggravates the situation, and the president's decision to reverse his hardline approach should be seen as a sign of magnanimity, rather than a climbdown.
