Irene Shubik created science fiction series for both the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ and ITV, worked on the influential Play for Today and brought John Mortimer’s inimitable barrister Rumpole of the Bailey to the screen. Perhaps her most notable achievement was initiating ITV’s epic Jewel In The Crown series set in India. Irene had a reputation for being a challenging personality, which even her friend Judith Burnely acknowledges.
