Bereaved parents 'penalised' for not marrying

Today in Parliament

Available for over a year

Bereaved parents have told MPs that they have lost thousands of pounds in benefits because they weren't married to the father of their children. Only parents who are married or in a civil partnership qualify for the Bereavement Support Payment. Mothers who've been denied the benefit have been giving evidence to the work and pensions committee. David Cornock reports. There is more from the Commons and the Lords on 'Today in Parliament' - Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio 4, 11:30pm.
