Racing: Why are women under-represented?

Sport on Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio Berkshire

Available for over a year

Tim Dellor talks to Kristy French from Clive Cox's yard about why areas of the sport are male-dominated. Earlier this week, a report found women are under-represented in the most prominent areas of British horse racing. "Because the men are stronger, to me they would be better at it," she told Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio Berkshire's Tim Dellor. "But it doesn't necessarily mean they are better. "The likes of Josie Gordon who are up and coming are riding brilliantly." And French thinks it can be really difficult at the start for female jockeys. "I knew Josie when I first came into racing, and she was struggling...she was getting the odd ride here and there. "It's so nice to see her doing so well now to how I saw her five years ago."
