A near complete skeleton of a dodo has been sold at auction for almost 300-thousand pounds. It's the first time in nearly a hundred years that a virtually intact specimen of the extinct bird has come up for sale. Rupert Van der Werff, from Summers Place Auctions, is the man who sold it, he said: ”It’s one of the most complete there is, it’s a composite skeleton and has come from the bones of different animals. It’s a dream come true to have one up for sale – it’s unbelievable.” The collector’s piece attracted interest from around the world, and it said there were only 12 similarly complete skeletons in existence and all were held by museums. “It touches with today’s sentiment – it’s tale is a sad tale and one of man interfering with a delicate eco system which led to it’s extinction,” added the auctioneer.
