Forkbeard or Cnut: Viking king buried at church
The Viking cross at Sproxton and its links to the Anglo-Norse monarchy
The Sproxton Cross is an Anglo-Norse monument that stands proudly in a peaceful churchyard just inside Leicestershire.
Dating from the 10th or 11th century it was carved and erected in honour of either Sweyn Forkbeard or his son Cnut the Great - nobody is exactly sure.
The cross was rediscovered being used as a bridge across a nearby stream but is now to be found by the Church of St Bartholemew.
