A savings group consists of a small number of people who pool savings and take turns receiving a fixed amount on a regular basis. They are also investment vehicles for group projects.

Savings groups are popularly known as 鈥渟usu鈥� in Ghana, "stokvel" in South Africa, 鈥渃hama鈥� in Kenya and 鈥渓ikelembe鈥� in DR Congo. In South Africa, there are over 820 000 stokvels in with a combined membership of 11.4 million people. They handle over $3 billion per annum.
