Tony Dodson on fiery Haye vs Bellew build-up

Tony Dodson defends the fiery build up to the David Haye vs Tony Bellew fight.

The build up to Saturday night’s big fight at the O2 Arena, London, between David Haye and Tony Bellew has been heated, with both fighters exchanging verbal barbs. Some believe that some of the comments have been a step too far.

Former British Super Middleweight Champion Tony Dodson is friends with both men, and has sparred with both of them. He said: “You’re going to get in the ring with someone and want to hurt them, David has said some underhanded things, but it’s because he’s in fight mode. You have to make yourself dislike this person.”

The British Boxing Board of Control acted after a news conference in which Haye insulted fans and gave graphic descriptions of hurting Bellew.

“These are things people have to do to sell tickets, if they are shaking hands and best mates, nobody will want to buy the fight,” added Dodson.
