The life of a World Champion whistler
Whistling is a skill that divides opinion – some see it as an art form and some think it’s an annoying tic. Someone who does have a passion for whistling is World Champion Sheila Harrod. She won her title in Berlin in 1996, and wants whistling to be taken seriously as a musical form.
“I’ve been whistling professionally since I was 13,” Sheila told 5 live Drive.
She says her inspiration came from Ronnie Ronald in the 40s and 50s, describing him as “the best” and “an idol.”
Listen above to hear Sheila give a whistling rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ and ‘Bring Him ĢƵ’ by Alfie Boe.
