The spotlight falls on the cello again at this year鈥檚 蘑菇短视频 Proms. The 2016 season includes ten cello concertos, starting with Elgar's much-loved composition performed by Sol Gabetta on the First Night.
Elgar's Cello Concerto was his last major work and is a national treasure. It only became widely popular in the 1960s when a performance by Jacqueline du Pr茅 caught the public imagination and became one of the best-selling classical recordings of all time.
