Steven Woolfe, UKIP MEP and the party's immigration spokesman said UKIP is "not a right wing鈥� and sometimes slipped into a negative tone during the election, but the 鈥渢one has moved inexorably forward鈥�.

This followed comments by UKIP's economics spokesman Patrick O'Flyn, who told The Times Mr Farage risked turning the party into a "personality cult".

鈥淲hat was absolutely correct about Patrick鈥檚 analysis of this鈥�.is that sometimes the tone in our party had started to slip to something much more negative," said Mr Woolfe.

He said that a "very positive campaign" is needed to get out of the European Union.
