Episode 21
Brian takes cuttings from rhododendrons, and Kirsty does the same with a range of tender perennials. Brian revisits his espaliered apple trees for more essential maintenance.
There are many ways to develop a fantastic garden while keeping costs down, and one of the most obvious ways is by taking cuttings from the plants you already have. With that in mind, Brian Cunningham and Kirsty Wilson look at how to do so with various garden favourites - Brian with rhododendrons, and Kirsty with a range of tender perennials. Tender means they are vulnerable in the winter, so taking cuttings is also a great way of ensuring you have plants come the spring.
Brian revisits his espaliered apple trees for more essential maintenance, and Kirsty sows hollyhocks for that cottage garden favourite next year. Kirsty also pays a visit to the new glasshouses at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, and there are all the usual weekly handy hints.
