The Chalk of the Chilterns
Matt Baker and Vick Hope explore the chalk landscapes of the Chilterns, where rare grasslands, seasonal streams and specialised wildlife all depend on the fragile ground beneath their feet.
Matt Baker and Vick Hope explore the chalk landscapes of the Chilterns, where rare grasslands, seasonal streams and specialised wildlife all depend on the fragile ground beneath their feet. But as habitats have been lost and broken into isolated fragments, some species have declined.
Matt meets farmers working together to reconnect these landscapes, helps protect the endangered Duke of Burgundy butterfly and discovers how drone technology is transforming a chalkland vineyard. Vick visits a rare winterbourne stream that flows only after winter rains as restoration work helps bring it back to life.
Meanwhile, Adam Henson welcomes a rare-breed middle white pig to his Cotswolds farm and trials crops that could cut fertiliser use.
