Jennifer Lucy Allan presents the fruits of our latest exclusive collaboration session, between Glasgow-based pipes player Harry G¨®rski-Brown and New York saxophonist and sound artist Lea Bertucci.
Lea Bertucci's discography spans over a decade, encompassing eight albums of full-length solo work and a number of collaborative projects. An electro-acoustic minimalist with a background in woodwind instruments (primarily the alto saxophone and bass clarinet), her practice as a sound artist includes multichannel audio pieces and explorations of highly-resonant spaces. Her latest release The Oracle, a vocal-focused collection that has been three years in the making, creatively misuses a reel-to-to-reel tape machine to live-manipulate her speech: 'fragments of words and phrases simmer within layers of voice . . . revealing and obscuring images of dreams, warped news headlines and mythological imagery.'
Harry G¨®rski-Brown is a Scotland-based artist and electroacoustic musician. His releases across the Glasgow-based GLARC, Non-Classical and Wild Raver records have seen him reinterpreting G¨¤idhlig (Scottish Gaelic) songs, which are usually set using voice, pipes, fiddle, organ and electronics. His most recent release, as part of a collection of music from six emerging and prominent Scottish artists, was an imaginative reinterpretation of a G¨¤idhlig tale of Fearchar Macklin Oig, who took revenge on a landlord who had confiscated his wife¡¯s kettle when she did not have money to give him for their rent. He was an Artist in Residence at Non-Classical from 2023-2025.
