Complaint
A reader complained that the original version of the article misrepresented the summary of a finding published by the ECU by using the phrase “trans ideology” where the summary had used “trans identity” and that the alteration was deliberate, reflecting bias by ĢƵ News against transgender people. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ĢƵ’s editorial standards of accuracy and impartiality.
Outcome
The error was identified and corrected shortly after publication, the article was amended and a note explaining the reason for the amendment (of this and another inaccuracy) was added. This was enough to resolve the issue of accuracy. The ECU found no grounds for concluding that the inaccuracy was deliberate or a reflection of bias on the part of ĢƵ News.
