In this Unit we’ll look at the Gaelic for the seasons and at some seasonal celebrations.
Here’s some vocabulary:
- winter
- spring
- summer
- autumn
- cold
- always
- to tell the truth
- cuckoo
- bramble (blackberry) – fruit only
- season
In transcript 1, Iain and Mairead are discussing the four seasons. Note how we form the comparative adjective in Gaelic (“w”, “cDZ”). We generally slenderise it and add an –e to the end. Sometimes there is also lenition (change in quality of the initial consonant) Here are some examples:
- warm
- warmer
- cold
- colder
- long
- longer
