Ofcom Broadcasting Code - Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ statement

The Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ today issued this statement following the publication by Ofcom of its Broadcasting Code:

Ìý

"The Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ, along with other broadcasters, has worked with Ofcom on the new Broadcasting Code. We therefore welcome the fact that the code is clear and concise. We believe it will help both broadcasters and audiences as it is largely a common sense approach which seeks a balance between freedom of expression and the responsibility to protect children and vulnerable people.

Ìý

"The Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ has made clear to Ofcom its concerns over a rule in the Harm and Offence section which it believes conflicts with the Governors' responsibility for accuracy and which we will be seeking to resolve at an early date in the new Charter and Agreement.

Ìý

"In common with other broadcasters we also think some of the new rules around privacy are potentially restrictive on matters of legitimate public interest."
