2002 Queen's Award for Enterprise for Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has conferred a 2002 Queen's Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category on Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide Ltd for export achievement.

Winning this prestigious award means Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide's achievement in international trade has been judged by a thorough and demanding process to be, quite simply, among the best of UK companies.

"This is a great accolade for Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide and quite rightly recognises the tremendous job our sales and marketing teams around the world are doing with Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ brands and properties in their respective markets. This success is due to great teamwork and I congratulate everyone who made it possible," said Rupert Gavin, Chief Executive, Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide.

In the three-year review period - 1999, 2000 and 2001 - Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide grew its television export business by almost 35% from £145.7 million to £194.8 million.

In addition to financial growth, all aspects of the company's activities - from programme sales to corporate responsibility - were taken into account for the Award. The company had to prove best practice in the areas of: relationship with employees, suppliers, partners, customers and contractors; impact on society; relationship with local communities - at home and abroad; and impact on the environment.

Granted for a period of five years, the Award and Grant of Appointment will be presented later this year to the company at a special ceremony by the Lord-Lieutenant of the County and a local representative of HM The Queen. Mike Phillips, Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide's Director of International Television, will attend a reception at The Department of Trade and Industry on 22nd April, in the presence of HRH The Duke of York to celebrate this year's Awards.

The company was formed in 1994 to develop a co-ordinated approach to the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ's commercial activities: television, publishing, product licensing, Internet and interactive. Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Worldwide exists to maximise the value of the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ's programme and publishing assets for the benefit of the licence payer, and re-invest in public service programming. Turnover in the last financial year (2000/2001) was £587million and £96million in cashflow was returned to the Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ.
