Our first dip into the archives of Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio Foyle.
Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio Foyle in Londonderry first went on air in September 1979 and now is a firm favourite with listeners in the city and surrounding area. (click to visit the Radio Foyle website)
Presented by Roy Hamilton, the "What's West" programme takes a look at hiring fairs. These fairs, up until 1920's/1930's, were how young men and women found work on farms and how farmers found workers. It was not an easy life - living conditions were hard and wages were small.
You can hear the memories of those who were 'hired out' in "What's West" (Hiring Fairs), which was broadcast on Ä¢¹½¶ÌÊÓƵ Radio Foyle in April 1980.
